Baby Blessing

I will encourage baby blessing to be done on the basis of the experiences of Simeon and Anna-when the baby Jesus was brought to them in the Jewish temple (Luke 2:21-38, NIV).

Simeon, who had been told by the Holy Spirit that “he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ”

(v. 26), took Jesus in his arms and praised God for the opportunity to see the salvation of the Lord and also gave prophetic words of God’s purpose in the life of Jesus-to be “a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel” (v. 32). Anna, a senior adult, gave thanks to God for the opportunity to experience the presence of Jesus and “spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem” (v. 38).

The leadership may be the persons who can especially affirm and speak blessing upon their own children or grandchildren. Psalm 112:1-2 includes a prophetic blessing for them: “Praise the Lord. Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands. His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed” (NIV, emphasis added).

Another blessing is found in Isaiah 44:3-4: “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams” (NIV, emphasis added).

God may add a special blessing upon the life of your child or grandchild if you write a “Prayer of Blessing” at significant milestones in their lives. They will receive wisdom and affirmation from you. Our greatest days are ahead! Jesus is coming! Be joyful! Be blessed! The Church will encourage parents to have their children blessed by the leadership, which means any leader could be contracted to represent the Church to bless children of the Church and those outside the sheepfold.

We can see that it pleases God for us to lift up young people in prayer and praise. God shows us in His Word that it is strategic in the life of children to have people provide a prayer covering for them, affirming God’s promises upon them. You may also speak portions of God’s Word over them that apply to their lives, building into their lives added strength and blessing. God will confirm His Word to them in wonderful ways.

Would you like to have God in your everyday life? His words will make you strong and your faith in him will fortify your soul. Join our activities and have God's presence in every decision you make, in everything you do and in every thought you have.
